Last Night
Fitbit flashes, “Congratulations, you just earned your first 15,000-in-a-day badge.” That is 7.5 miles and to think I walked along beside her, I am stunned. After nearly all day cuddled inside a cabana, last night we went for the Mother Lode. It was gorgeous at dusk, but scary figures strolled by when skies turned dark.
Heat
Closer to the equator the sun penetrated through our clothes like a knife through hot butter. Sitting on our favorite veranda the anticipated breeze was not to be. She looked at me, and without a word we unanimously headed back to the hotel. Sweat poured down our bodies; fearing dehydration we high-tailed it to water.
World Cup
Soccer, or should I say futbol, is the most popular of all world sports; thus the World Cup. We watch as the USA loses its last match in the first round yet advances to the Round of Sixteen. So hard to understand how we can lose but nevertheless advance. USA and Germany, both winners, Yea!
Language
Speaking in the tongue of foreigners whom you expect to be ignorant of your own is a big mistake. Worse is turning to a colleague to say something in your native tongue thinking the dumb foreigner can't understand. "Es bastante," I say. With a smirk as I walk away,"Usted tiene un buen dia; muchas gracias!"
Caribbean Swim
For 48 hours I think, should I? Will the undercurrent drag me out to sea, will a sea urchin cut through my neuropathy, or worse, will Debbie watch me drown? Memories abound; body surfing waves, solo sailing in a dingy, feeling like Johnny Weissmuller fighting through the waves. But yes, I do it, young again!
