A New Normal: Travel 2021

Join me as we begin again- as we discover a new way to travel- a safer- more cautious way. May we appreciate every single day we have and not forget what isolation and fear and separation required of us.

Rich Port      Gold and silver left the New World to Europe from Puerto Rico and now, as the largest seaport in the Caribbean, tourism is ubiquitous. Juan Ponce de Leon established the first settlement in 1508, Sir Francis Drake fought battles here, and in 1898 Spain ceded the island to the United States. Rich port, rich history.

Great breakfast at Ben and Jerrys Cafe

Ben & Jerry’s
Breakfast, lunch and dinner on the veranda of Ben & Jerry’s; the ocean only steps away splashes ashore with thundering waves. Located on the perimeter of Plaza Venetia Del Mar, the shady table beneath palms provides a delightful setting to begin each day. Antiqua Bowl with granola sprinkled over a kaleidoscope of berries. Yum, yum!
Fuzzy blossoms in the park

Odd trees line the parkway
Blazing orange blossoms all over city
Beautiful white flowering tree on street

Cabana
Nice man at poolside Activities Center saves a full-service Cabana for my honey and me. Arriving from a long stroll down the beach at water’s edge, we settle in with cold water, comfortable lounge chairs, and shade. A dip in the close and colorful and thankfully shallow pool cools the skin. Missing our grandchildren!

The Walk
“It’s 45 minutes,” guessed a lady, “No, 25 minutes,” two security men claimed. With my sticks, ready to walk with Debbie to Old San Juan we began. The lady was closer but still short, stranded in Old Town after an hour, with calves and feet crying for relief and barely surviving, we found a taxi.
