A New Normal: Travel 2021

Join me as we begin again- as we discover a new way to travel- a safer- more cautious way. May we appreciate every single day we have and not forget what isolation and fear and separation required of us.

Our last port of call before getting off tomorrow in Barcelona. Alicante Spain. It is a beautiful city! We take the free shuttle to the city then walk to the Tram. Learning from David, I ask the information officer where the Tram is and get him to mark it on our map- we find it with no trouble. The Tram is a light rail that runs up and down the coast- the #4 thing Trip Advisor suggests here. We take it for an hour to Benidorm. All along the coast between mountains and beaches it is spectacular- all for 5 Euros each.  Savings over the coastal ship excursion of $75 pp is $275. One should take it not for the destination but for the ride and scenery. It goes by so many coastal Spanish villas. High on the coast multimillion dollar homes overlooking the beautiful sea. No matter how many times I see the Mediterranean Sea I marvel at its blue green color. The water is so clear from the train we can see the bottom! There are lemon and orange trees everywhere. Homes have huge palm trees landscaped in their marble courtyards. The beach goes on for miles and miles. The mountains are sharp peaks with low cover- look like mountains near Las Vegas. Sand sandstone and more sand.

We return and stroll back to the famous Esplanade De Espana, which goes along the seaside and is covered in over 65 million mosaic tiles.  Small cafes line the walkway and people are all out for their Sunday stroll. Tina and Becky buy Debbie lunch at one. We have amazing Bruschetta, Lasagna, Paella, and pineapple. Lilly strolls about grabbing Tapas elsewhere and exploring on her own. We stroll back to the ship and begin the dreaded packing task. Packing for 14 days with such variable weather is not like packing for a week of consistent weather!
Lilly heads to the Relaxation room while Debbie goes to the Persian Gardens one last time. Dinner was again fun and wonderful. We bid goodbye to Carole and our waiters, the girls exchanging Facebook contacts. Tina heads to watch the sunset with Jason while Becky, Lilly and Debbie watch on the balcony. Debbie then heads to the casino for one last night with her Spanish friends- she wins $200 this time- nice change! The girls find their young friends for a goodbye party and Lilly wonders the ship one last time. Early call in the morning- what a fantastic trip!!
