Join me as we begin again- as we discover a new way to travel- a safer- more cautious way. May we appreciate every single day we have and not forget what isolation and fear and separation required of us.

May 1, 2015 Half Way

At 3am we were half way between Ft Lauderdale and the Azores! Its so amazing how long it takes even in huge cruise ships. I just cant imagine Columbus and the voyage the Pilgrims had! This morning our Captain told us there was 15,000 ft of water below us- totally impossible to imagine!

Tina and Becky came in early this morning after meeting a man too old to flirt from Australia and talking for two hours. He sounded like quite the smoozer saying he’d heard there were two beautiful young women on board and they must be the ones. They were wise and order breakfast delivered to the room this morning. Meanwhile Lilly and Debbie went to the dining room, enjoying great conversation and comparing notes on their lives.  We are thankful to be good friends over these years and so comfortable with one another with so much in common!

Tina, Becky and Lilly went to the Captains talk and really enjoyed it. They learned about how the water on board uses the oceans water and the salt is taken out.  The ship was celebrating a perfect score on a surprise visit in Ft Lauderdale before we left, it is very hard to get and they were quite proud. He also shared what happens when a ship goes into dry dock and the importance of maintaining these huge crafts. During lunch we visited with one of the enrichment speakers, a Professor who has been giving fun and interesting talks on history, and items of interest. Shes very entertaining. Reminded Debbie so much of David- he would have been great at cruise ship talk and they had discussed it so many many times. While in the Persian Gardens the sun finally came out! The sea is now its beautiful blue and so full of joy. We all enjoyed the Glass Blowing show with a talk about the science of glass.

Evening is the time Debbie seems to miss David the most, probably because while going our separate ways often during the day we always came together for dinner and evening fun. Seeing others walk the deck, watch the sunset, are stark reminders that he is gone and life will never be the same. Even so its also a reminder of wonderful times at sea and beautiful sunsets. Its a reminder of something he once said, sunsets and sunrises look the same- bookends to the day. If you love alot you grieve alot- this will be a long process.

The evening fun is the Family Feud game. We all attend, it is a packed house with lots of laughs. The crew here is alot of fun and are very visible. Management by walking around is obvious. After losing in the casino again Debbie and Lilly call it a night and the girls wait to see the Newlywed Game and enjoy that fun.
