A New Normal: Travel 2021

Join me as we begin again- as we discover a new way to travel- a safer- more cautious way. May we appreciate every single day we have and not forget what isolation and fear and separation required of us.

Wednesday March 19

We arrive with few difficulties, purchase a seven-day underground (“the Tube”) pass, and after a transfer from the Piccadilly Line to the Civic Circle Line we hail a cabby from the Edgeware Station to the Marriott Regent’s Park Hotel. Located on the edge of the large and very busy London downtown, it is perfectly situated. We can catch the Tube in almost any direction and will use it often. After a two-hour nap to nip jet lag, we explore the neighborhood and find a delightfully small, charming, and reasonably priced Italian restaurant; the spaghetti Bolognese followed by ice cream and finished off with sparkling water, was a real treat.

We get caught up on the latest of Carol Oliver’s broken ankle; while split in two places requiring four screws and a plate, she nevertheless made it with Brad to the Drury Panthers Sweet Sixteen (NCAA, Division II) game which they won decisively. Prior to the game the entire Drury basketball team visited Carol in her hospital room, and then ran to her side following the victory; she watched them win from a wheelchair in the disabled fan section, and they continued to show their appreciation for all she and Brad have done to create fan support for Drury Athletics, in general, and basketball, in particular. For those reading this who don’t know Carol, she is our daughter-in-law, married to son Bradley; they have two wonderful children Emily and Abbey.

Tired now, heading for some more sleep; tomorrow is a big day.
